Diabetic foot care

Importance of Footcare:

People with diabetes are at a higher risk of developing foot problems due to nerve damage (neuropathy) and poor blood circulation. Proper footcare is crucial to prevent complications such  as infections, ulcers, and even amputations.

Daily Foot Inspection:

Check your feet daily for any cuts, blisters, redness, swelling, or changes in skin color or temperature. If you have difficulty seeing or reaching your feet, use a mirror or seek assistance  from a family member, friend or let me know and we can arrange a home visit.

Proper Foot Hygiene:

Wash your feet daily with lukewarm water and mild soap. Dry them thoroughly, especially  between the toes, to prevent fungal infections. Avoid soaking your feet, as it can dry out the skin.

Moisturize Regularly:

Apply a gentle moisturizer to keep the skin on your feet soft and prevent dryness and cracking. Avoid applying lotion between the toes to prevent moisture buildup.

Trim Nails Carefully:

Cut your toenails  straight across and file the edges gently to prevent ingrown toenails.  If you have difficulty trimming your nails, let me know and we can arrange a home visit.

Wear Proper Footwear:

Choose shoes that fit well, provide adequate support and have a wide toe box to prevent pressure points. Avoid tight or pointed shoes that can cause friction and discomfort. Always wear clean, dry socks made of breathable materials.

Protect Your Feet:

Avoid walking barefoot, even at home, to prevent injuries. Wear comfortable shoes or slippers that protect your feet from sharp objects and extreme temperatures.

Regular Exercise:

Engage in regular physical activity to improve blood circulation and  maintain overall foot health. Consult with your healthcare provider to  determine suitable exercise options.

Regular Check-ups:

Schedule regular foot examinations with Coastal Soles Footcare. I can assess your foot health, identify any issues early on, and provide appropriate treatment and advice.

Diabetes Management:

Keep your blood sugar levels under control through proper diabetes management. This helps reduce the  risk of complications and promotes overall foot health.

Remember, if you notice any concerning changes or have persistent foot problems, seek medical attention promptly.

Proper diabetic footcare, along with regular monitoring and professional guidance, can significantly reduce the risk of complications and ensure optimal foot health.
